Home Solar Batteries

Capture solar energy while the sun is shining and store it for power at night

RESIDENTIAL BATTERY & ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS

Home battery storage is one of the best ways to upgrade your existing solar power system. We've been waiting to say this for some time, but with generous incentives from both NSW and Federal government programs up and running now is definitely the time to install solar batteries.

Solar Power Australia are the best choice for your solar battery installation as we have years of experience installing and configuring battery systems from popular brands such as Sungrow, Tesla Powerwall and Pylontech. For more customised and complex or Off Grid battery systems we'll use Victron Energy Multiplus Inverters and ELMOFO Industrial Batteries which allow advanced power control.

The NSW Government launched its solar battery incentive as part of the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) on November 1, 2024. This scheme aims to encourage battery adoption to help stabilise the grid, reduce reliance on fossil fuels during peak demand, and contribute to NSW's emissions reduction targets.

This rebate is provided to customers as an upfront discount by accredited installers.

Typically ranges from $1,000 to $2,800 for residential-sized batteries, depending on the battery's usable capacity. Larger batteries may receive a larger discount, scaling up to a maximum of 28kWh.

    • Must be a resident or business owner in NSW.
    • Must have an existing rooftop solar system, or be installing a new solar system with the battery.
    • The battery must be new (not second-hand or refurbished).
    • The battery must have a usable capacity between 2kWh and 28kWh.
    • The battery must have a minimum 10-year product warranty, retaining 70% of usable capacity after 10 years.
    • The battery must be on the Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved battery list and installed by a Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accredited installer such as Solar Power Australia.
    • The battery must be internet-connectable and controllable by a third-party energy retailer or service provider for VPP incentives.
    • Restrictions apply to the safe installation location of the battery. Check with us to confirm eligibility.

The Australian Government's "Cheaper Home Batteries Program" is a new national initiative launching on July 1, 2025. It aims to make home battery storage more affordable and accelerate battery adoption across the country.

Similar to the NSW scheme, this program provides a discount on the upfront cost of installing eligible small-scale batteries.

Expected to be around a 30% discount on the upfront cost. In 2025, up to a maximum of 50 kWh of usable capacity.

Available to homeowners, small businesses, and community facilities.

    • No means-testing.
    • Battery system must be new.
    • Nominal capacity between 5 kWh and 100 kWh (rebate applies to the first 50 kWh of usable capacity).
    • Must be paired with new or existing rooftop solar.
    • Must be VPP-capable for on-grid systems.
    • Installed by a Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited installer.
    • One rebate per electricity meter (multiple properties may qualify separately).
    • Batteries must be installed on or after July 1, 2025.
    • Restrictions apply to the safe installation location of the battery. Check with us to confirm eligibility.

Combining or Stacking Rebates

The federal battery rebate can be combined with existing state and territory battery incentives, including the NSW Peak Demand Reduction Scheme. This means you can potentially stack both incentives to achieve significant savings on your battery installation.

Example Potential Combined Savings (SPA Estimates 2025):

10 kWh Battery: ~$1,400 (NSW) + ~$3,400 (Federal) = ~$4,800 total potential saving

20 kWh Battery: ~$2,800 (NSW) + ~$6,880 (Federal) = ~$9,680 total potential saving

Important Considerations:

Both schemes require installation by Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited installers.

Always verify your specific eligibility with an accredited installer and refer to the official government websites for the latest and most accurate information, as program details can change. Restrictions apply to the safe installation location of the battery. Check with us to confirm eligibility.

Stay Solar Powered From Day To Night

Battery storage is quickly revolutionising the way we think about electricity and is a natural and important addition to the future of renewable energy. The idea behind battery storage is that it helps capture excess solar generation during the day to create power for use into the evening.

Maximised Solar Self-Consumption:

Your solar panels generate electricity during the day, but peak energy usage often occurs in the evening. A battery stores this excess solar power, allowing you to use your own clean energy after the sun goes down, rather than exporting it for a low feed-in tariff or paying for expensive grid power. This dramatically increases your "solar self-consumption," making the most of your investment.

Significant Electricity Bill Savings:

By using stored solar energy at night or during peak demand periods (when grid electricity is most expensive), you reduce your reliance on electricity retailers. This can lead to substantial reductions in your overall power bills, especially if you are on a time-of-use (TOU) tariff.

Blackout Protection and Energy Security:

In the event of a grid outage, a properly configured home battery system can provide blackout protection and automatically switch to off-grid mode, providing continuous power to essential appliances (like lights, refrigerators, and medical equipment). This offers crucial peace of mind and resilience, particularly in areas prone to unreliable grid connections or frequent extreme weather events.

Energy Independence and Control:

A battery system gives you greater autonomy over your home's energy supply. You become less vulnerable to grid instability, price fluctuations, and external energy policies, empowering you to manage your energy consumption more effectively.

Participation in Virtual Power Plants:

Many modern battery systems are "VPP-capable." By joining a VPP, you can allow your battery to share small amounts of stored energy back to the grid during periods of high demand. In return, you can receive payments or credits from your energy retailer, adding another revenue stream and contributing to grid stability.

Reduced Carbon Footprint:

By storing and using more of your self-generated solar energy, you further decrease your reliance on grid electricity, which in Australia still includes a significant portion of fossil-fuel generated power. This amplifies your positive environmental impact and contributes to a cleaner energy future.

Increased Property Value:

Like solar panels, a home battery storage system is a highly desirable feature that can increase the resale value of your property and appeal to environmentally conscious buyers seeking energy-efficient homes.

Government Incentives:

The upfront cost of battery storage is often supported by government rebates and incentives. From July 1, 2025, Australia will introduce a federal "Cheaper Home Batteries Program" offering significant discounts, which can often be stacked with existing state-based incentives (like the NSW Peak Demand Reduction Scheme), making battery installation more affordable than ever.

Lake Macquarie Council Swansea Library EV Charging Station

2021 has offered up some challenges but thats where we thrive. Lake Macquarie Council posed such a challenge to us. How do we ensure renewable energy available to charge electric vehicles 24/7 when the sun is only available during the day? A large battery storage system is the answer. Oh, and it needs to be up off the ground since its a flood zone, and easily removable.

Tesla Powerwall Storage for your Solar Power

This Solar plus Tesla Powerwall system was installed in late 2020 for a customer who required both Solar and Storage. The system is large enough to cover the whole house power consumption and the battery is able to provide power to the house during a blackout. The system is also set up as a Virtual Power Plant allowing the user to export excess power during peak times for maximum financial benefit.

Trust the team that's been powering Australian homes with solar energy since 2000

I had my first solar panels installed by Solar Power Australia in 2015 and had no hesitation in returning to them recently when I decided to enlarge my system. Being able to use an established local business was a big factor in my decision. I’m really happy with the results from both an environmental and financial perspective.
